I have a 1982 Volvo 242 Turbo. I bought it several years ago for $500. I drove it for about a year before I put an intercooler on it. Drove it for another year and the turbo went out. Have put another turbo on it, but now needs a fuel pump and some other work. I have people stopping and asking if it is for sale all the time. No. As time and money allow, I will eventually repair this car and drive again. Turbo + 4 speed = hoot. I bought a 1987 300 sdl about a year ago. Paid 3200 and have put another 2500 or so in it. This car is another that I will not sell. It is in excellent condition and I drive it daily. I would not sell your Volvo. Also had a Volvo diesel with manual trans and I did sell it because it was sooo slow. If you want to get into the alternative fuel thing, shop around and you will find a reasonably priced Benz to do it with.

My mom's doggiemobile 240DL wagon (in sig) has been pretty good to us. It's falling apart, many things don't work, but it still gets her and the dogs around. It's starting to burn more oil, and I think the 5 speed is starting to let go, so my parents have been looking around for another one with low[er] mileage. I've been trying to talk her into a 124 TD or TE, but she doesn't think the dog crates will fit in the rear.

why not have both? or find a diesel volvo. the volvo 740 turbo diesel with intercooler was the fastest diesel powered production passenger vehicle available when it came out. there is a guy out there in webland who runs 13sec quarter miles in his turbo'd volvo 240 diesel. reworked injection pump, heavy duty rods etc., npr intercooler, 3" exhaust. = $10k

i'm a volvo hotrodder guy who picked up a beater benz to run on wvo, but i was looking for a 740 turbo diesel wagon. i've even considered changing my plans for my v8 powered volvo bertone coupe to run a turbodiesel instead. am i crazy?

if you're going to "experiment" with wvo, you should have two cars. DO NOT make your project car be your daily driver. trust me please.

I suppect low volvo value is because there are so very many still alive
basic over supply and low to mid demand
they are a very hard car to kill, but new parts are pricie

I had a old 145, 244,a 245 turbo stick, 745 tic, and a 940
I am going to replace the 745tic motor with the one in the 244
as I kill that one towing cars long distances
the 740-940 are nicer cars but have too many minor problems
that the older simpler 240 didnot

the volvo diesel does not have a very good rep, much like their old 6v
