Oil Pan Gasket - What type of sealant?

Just putting my oil pan back together, and realized I dont know what kind of sealant to use, if any. I am putting the upper half back together with the lower half after doing the turbo drain tube job-o'-joy.

FSM makes no mention of any sealant for the upper to lower oil pan. I was going to use some Permatex High-Tack non-hardnening just to keep in it place which I screw it in.

Any suggestions?

I used the Permatex High-temp black stuff on my TD..has held for the last 4000 miles or so.

Dan, As you know I did this job (the turbo oil return) a couple of weeks ago. I had read alot on the forum and decided that I wasnt pulling the oil pan, and therefor didnt need a new gasket. Those plans changed when the crumbling gasket appeared to be falling into the oil pan, and I couldnt remove the tube without a strike from below... I knew that the oil pan gasket was fairly new because I ripped a hole in the oil pan 6 months back and had it replaced. There was no gasket sealer or RTV on the gasket and I was, against my better judgement, able to re-use the gasket. I figured it would be a temp. fix but it seams to be holding ok.

Thanks! Easy enough...

upper pan...no sealant or gasket...lower pan...use an OEM gasket.

I had to chop a fair amount from the side of my upper and lower oil pan when I put the 616 in my Rover and as such couldn't use the factory gasket. I used Permatex "Right-Stuff" on both the upper and lower pan and neither has leaked a drop since. If you haven't used that stuff before, it's really good.
