Check the EGR. If its stuck open the car will run like crap. Since its a Cali model you have the Oxy trap as well. Try taking off the muffler after the down pipe?

No, it's an 84, not an 85.

I don't believe the Cali model was unique until 85, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

BTW, I would post some photos of the engine too.

Help, Help,
Blue = oil smoke. Running bad at idle probably = low compression. But you could start with the rack damper. If that doesn't do it, try running the car off a gallon jug of fresh fuel under the hood. Five year old fuel could be a problem. Since you have new injectors, cracking those open while running isn't going to tell you much other than perhaps which cylinder isn't firing. The good thing about posting it on this forum is that a perspective buyer will probably show up with a compression guage and figure out what the problem is for you. Kind of like giving a pint of blood to the American Red Cross to let them do an AIDS test for free. ;-)

Many thanks to all. This forum is a big help.

I have been reading about how so many 300D 's have similar problems....

Last night, I checked the Alda line and that bolt.
Also removed EGR and it was a-ok.

I read the extensive post and articles about vaccuum issues.
I believe that I will clean up the vaccuum issues first,
then check compression and lastly, check boost.

I hope to avoid buying a bunch of expensive gear to fix a car that I intend to sell.

Vacuum issues are totally irrelevant to how the engine runs, unlike a gasser in which a vacuum leak can cause poor running. It is a secondary system.
