1976 300d transmission failure.. maybe?

Hello all -

My brother-in-law now owns my ole '76 benz 300d. Recently, he made it one mile from his home and all fwd and backward movement stopped.. engine on, running fine. The tranny has 160K or so original miles, never had any major problems. Are there known issues or quick tuneups that may correct this?.. eg., filter, or other items that when plugged or need replacement, will cause this behaviour.

Just prior to happening, car seemed to be laboring/slipping.

any help appreciated!

If the fluid level checks fine it sounds like an intenal transmission problem. Make sure the rest of the drivtrain is intact before condemming the transmission though.
