you will want to buy a new fender as you probably will not be able to remove one without tearing it up because of the undercoating.

unless you happen to find a car with a fender that has already been replaced.

Fender pannel.

I live in Chapel Hill, North Carolina..

about the underpanel? can you not remove those things easily? I noted bolts on the top along the inside of the hood..is there a special trick I need to know about?

Inside the door jambs, is another few bolts. if you need a fender, or anything else for that car. Call this guy up, and tell him Nick, from Connecticut sent you..Here's the number
254-653-2291, He's got everything you'll ever need, new or used, for any Mercedes. Joe's an alright guy, and will give you a deal, if you mention me.

Glued on?

I know I read that early models of the W123 did use a glued on (epoxy) deal where the fender had to be removed by a 500 degree (hair dryer type) blower. If I remember correctly the change over to the bolted on front fenders came in 1982, as a midyear change. I do have a good drivers side fender in dark blue, in central Indiana, of the bolt on variety from an 83 W123.

yeah, as long as there's no PVC glue then it should be dieselgiant.com easy. There is definitely glue on the 116 fenders and it's a MEGA PITA.

The glue on w123 fenders still had all the bolts too, the glue seemed more like a seam sealer, when my 80's fender rusted apart, the wrecker wouldn't let me take a power tool or heating tool out there (fear of fire) took me 6 hours with a pocket knife and a screwdriver to cut off what began as a nice straight fender (desperado you say?), by time I got it off it had incurred cracked paint and distortion at several places. Back home, taking off the old fender was a snap with a heat gun, about 5 minutes. Stupid wrecker people.....I got it on and never painted it since the rest of the car was rust/beige/tan primer, etc. Funny the looks I get with the beige car and a maroon fender with white primer patches and a Mercedes logo, lol.
At least the 82 doesn't have those to deal with...

As I said, Give Joe at Foreign a call. He's in Olden, Texas and I can almost assure you he'll have in in pink, with blue poca-dots, if thats what you're looking for. He's got a lot of stuff. Shipping for that fender should not cost very much at all either...(254)653-2291.
