Well, my W116 300 SD was the victim of a Labor Day hit and run tonight. My car is rusty, but just about to be restored. It has NO dents at all, until now. I went down to the corner to a party, and when I got back, someone had crushed in the drivers front-side bumper. The left side marker was destroyed and laying in the street. The left skinny side bumper was smashed against the fender, and the fender is recessed behind it about 2 inches.

I know my car is rusty, but it's so hard to see a beautiful piece of metal crushed. My fender was the best part of the car too. No rust, and such beautiful lines.

The worst part is, I know someone I probably know did it, and they figured that since I would be restoring it soon myself it would not matter. It was a bummer.

Many years ago, I worked as an instructor for a truck driving school. We had an old Kenworth tractor with a Cummins 350 and a 10-speed transmission that we planned on trading in on a newer model. The only thing we were going to keep off of the tractor was the shiny chrome front bumper, and had already made arrangements for the dealer to swap bumpers with the new unit.

Well, don't you know that the day we dropped off the tractor for the bumper swap, the mechanic at the dealer tore off, twisted and ruined the bumper when he was backing up and snagged a steel pole in his own parking lot!...:rolleyes:

Good news..tonight I received a confession. My neighbor who threw the party told me one of his guests confided that they were the reckless party guest. I wondered why a woman came back to the party in tears. She was crying because she had just smashed a MERCEDES!!!!

So, my sweet neighbor who dabbles in the car business, said he'd take care of it, and have the dent repaired with his body man. Now I'm obsessing that they won't do it to my satisfaction!!!

I said, "why are you going to have it fixed? It's not your problem." He said, "Karma", I'm the one who had the party.

He's a cool guy, so I feel better.

Don't you just hate when other folks just don't pay attention to what they are doing, whether drunk or just too much partying is involved. If you can't drive drunk, pass out in the front yard, but don't trash the neighbors Benz's for heavens sake. It pissed me off when some teenagers ripped my hood ornament off at work, so I can imagine your grief over this. I sure hope your body man can get your little girl back to where she belongs, tell them the rust wasn't there before the accident either, hopefully they'll fix it to. Actually, they do cut you a break if they're working on your car anyways, so this may be a good time to get the exterior where you want it to be. Gotta be hurting Patsy, and I feel for you as well.

Unfortunately the fender in question is/was flawless, I will be sending my own paint along, so mine matches theirs when I get done. Hopefully the person misreads the order, and does the whole car. I'm so busy right now, that would be a dream come true.

I do feel your pain and can imagine mine if I was in your shoes, they would have destroyed my Ram to get to the Benz as well. That would have definitely pissed me off and put me into a rage. Seriously though, have them look at other areas that need fixing as well as paint, and make your neighbor feel guilty as hell and you should end up with a total remake for your car, a few tears wouldn't hurt either. Of course you could just press charges against the intruder on your fender and they'll pay up before you inform their insurance company of what has happened.

Sorry to hear about your car. It's nice your neighbor is fixing it for you, but it makes me mad (and it didn't even happen to my car) that the culprit 'got away with it'. The lack of respect for others and not owning up to one's mistakes are disturbing. I guess that's the way the world is now - if you don't get caught you didn't do anything wrong.
I hope your Karmic-conscious neighbor is right, what goes around comes around.

I woke up on a rainy Sunday morning a couple years ago to discover my 1990 Acura Integra LS had been totalled by a hit-and-run driver. My mistake, for parking it on the street, right? I don't understand how someone could slam into a parked car, tearing, buckling or bending the whole left side of it, and keep on going?? (It was still driveable, actually.)

I was the original owner, and had just spent $900 for the major service, including timing belt, etc.,etc. It made me sick to have State Farm total it out for $6K; oh well...at the time I owned four cars, and this was one way of thinning out the herd. I should have parked my Volvo behind it, lol.

I parted with fond memories of tearing around in my Integra. My wife probably misses the car more than I do, because I was already in love with my 300D which I was driving at that time. I can say that Honda built better electrical systems than Subaru or Volvo.
