One Less TDI on the road

Well, my wife and daughter were in a bad wreck Thursday afternoon. Luckily, they was not totaled!!

She was going 40 mph through a light controlled intersection on a two way street. She had the green light, and some guy coming the opposite way decided to make a left turn. The timing was just right to make it a partial head on.

The 2005.5 Jetta TDI protected them quite well. We'll find out today or tomorrow if the TDI will live or not. It's the first car my wife ever loved.

So sorry to hear about your TDI. It is good to know the A5 protected your family so well and I'm very pleased to hear they are doing ok! What a traumatic event... I know my life loves her A4 TDI and you will surely be able to replace it if it is totalled.

Hey, thanks for the well wishes! Body shop is working on an estimate now. It is Service King, and they seem to think the damage is repairable.

I am glad your family is fine. Hopefully after the repairs it will ride like it did before.

Here is the update...They found transmission problems now, so they decided to total the car yesterday, 05-01-2007. Here's the good news...The TDI's value was more than the loan pay off, so we are pocketing some extra cash as well. We have a deposit on a 2006 Jetta TDI that has 48 miles on it. We will be picking it up between now and this weekend.

Were the tranny problems just in general? Or because of the accident?

They were from the accident. The side pans got mangled, and when the body shop tried to move the car, no reverse. It was the 6 speed DSG tiptronic tranny. This car was regularly serviced. Only two problems surfaced, a broken rear a/c vent and a bad glow plug/glow plug harness. All covered under warranty.

Are you keeping the car on a salvage title or are you letting it go to scrap? It would be unfortunate to let such an engine go to waste ...

I'm sure somebody will snap up the engine if he does not keep it.

Glad to hear your family is OK.

I do not have the cash, so it's going to the salvage yard, unfortunately. The car was at the Service King in Carrollton Tx, Insurance co is State Farm. Anyone is welcome to see if they can get the engine.

New TDI!

We picked up our new 2006 TDI. VW is not importing any more in until mid 2008 with the roll out of the Blue Tech.

Anyway, it's the dark graphite blue, and had 35 miles at time of delivery. I hope this one lives longer...

When we put the deposit down last Saturday, there were 20 TDI's left. When we picked this one up, there were 12 left. This is at Metro VW in Irving TX.

We lost the dual climate and the automatic lights, but gained alloy wheels and the hail magnet (glass sun roof). I'm OK with losing the electrical bells and whistles, but noy happy with the $6000 price increase over two years. Oh well, at least the main drivers are compression ignition again.

Amen Brotha!

The 5 star rating is for real on these cars. It did what it was designed to do. I now have my wife saying she will drive nothing but German engineered cars with a diesel engine. Even better is that she is a living testimony to thier safety!!
