I have 2 bio-Benz's but need 4 headrests!
 

I have recently purchased an 82 240 sedan and an 80 300td wagon, both getting converted to veg/wvo. I don't get the T part, I thought that stood for turbo, which it obviously doesn't.

Anyhow neither car has headrests in the back seat NOR do they even accept rear headrests, has anyone else with kids fabbed up a suitable head rest solution?? I am asking for plans or, :confused: ideas, possibly a drawing or even a picture. I am not too terribly interested in changing out either rear seat but would like to add on to what I have.

I do weld however upholstery is not my forte, I am sure someone here could give me some tips.

if you need rear seat headrests, the TD (Touring or some similar German word... I started a thread on the monikers a little while ago... search under my name) should be simpler, as they were available with them. junk yard search for a wagon with the third row seat, it will have them, and grab the third row seat while you are at it, even if you don't use it, it raises the value of your car... as much as you can raise a non turbo wagon that is...:P . For the D, I guess you are going to have to pull out the seat back, and fab in a headrest mount from another type car... your welding skills will come in handy! Take pictures of what you do and post it here! others can benefit from your handiwork!

W126 headrests will fit. It will require welding in the brackets onto the seat back . There is a write-up somewhere in the archives. Do a search and you should find it.

The euro sedans have rear headrest and if you can find a euro donor its an easy swap because the brackets that the headrest slide in just bolt on. However the wagon headrest is a lot more work. The brackets that the headrest slide into are riveted on, so you will have to use a drill to remove them from the donor and before you can get to the bottom rivet you have to disassemble the bracket. My experience has been that about 50% of the time the spring in the bracket breaks when doing this. Next take the seat apart down to the the frame so you can rivet the brackets on. Putting the seats back together is no picknick and dont forget you have to cut holes and put in the plastic trim peices (that go around the hole) that I hope you remembered to get from the donor. Its a time consuming project.

So a friend mentioned that I might find a "Strap ON" type headrest that will hook into the spring work both from the front, going under and around, as well as the back. Now I have googled and searched ebay and I can't find it but if anyone has HEARD of the NAME or can suggest some NEW search terms to find it I would be most HAPPY!!!
