rear braided fuel lines

My rear fuel lines that connect from the fuel tank to the metal lines are weeping, and in need of replacement... Does anyone know the specs on those? Size, if I can get it at the Checker down the street, etc...?

If I pull off the hoses, is fuel going to start squirting all over? Should I run the tank low and/or drain it first?

Also, I want to start running on bio. Is there a certain type of hose that will stand up better, while I am at it?

Thanks

i would recommend using factory premade parts. they usually last at least 20 years. the generic hoses at the auto parts place will not last 2 years in my experience.

will the factory ones work with bio? I have heard bio will eat through normal fuel lines.

Volkswagens also use those braided rubber lines (same manufacturer). So, you may be able to go to a shop and buy yourself a length of it.

Drive until the fuel light comes on, and have a bucket handy when you pull the lines off.

I used 5/16 (I think) fuel injection hose from the local parts store to replace it. 5/16 is darn close to the original metric size, and almost all fuel injection hose is lined with viton.

The fuel supply hose, and maybe return hose, will drain the tank when removed. The fuel supply hose has a special fitting preattached to the end and armored from removal.

Viton is considered by many the defacto material for fuel line carrying bioD. Others say it isn't necessary. I got a kit from Greaseworks.org when I did mine.. spendy, but the instructions were very good and lead me step by step (which was just what I needed at the time).

It's an easy project.

I second the fuel injection hose in 5/16" size. In addition, if you remove the fuel supply hose (the one with the screw on fitting) and grind off the metal part that is clamped onto the hose below the nut section you will find a barbed hose fitting that you can slide a new section of hose up over and use a hose clamp to clamp it on.

I just did the lines on my tank. Well, the two important ones anyway. I got the proper metric hose from Performance Products. The return line went all right, although the hose clamps acted like they'd been on twenty years as I in the end had to cut them off. The vent line was a larger diameter, so I left it alone. Yes, fairly easy, but you'll bruise your nuckles and get real nice and dirty.

wait, I am confused now. The two important ones? I only see two hoses coming out of the tank (the send and return, I am assuming). Am I missing something?
