heavy throttle

I feel the pedal effort for both the throttle and brakes are heavier than I like. Is this normal? I already greased the ball and sockets on the throttle linkages in the engine compartment and it didn't do much. Any other ideas?

I dont know what there called, but there are two nylon linkage bushings on top of the valve cover that can cause the accelerator pedal to be heavy if they get dirt in them. As for the brakes, check to see if you have enough vaccum and if so it could be the booster.

My '85 pedal is also stiff. I think there is a bushing in the foot well to grease too. Haven't got around to crawling in there and looking yet.

sticky pedal

My "gas" pedal seems to get stiff after the car has been running for a while...I originally thought maybe bushings, but now I amleaning towards vacuum.....any ideas?

The "gas" pedal shouldn't have anything to do with vacuum on a diesel. It's purely a mechanical linkage.

Mine was having the opposite problem in the winter two years ago. After the car had sit overnight in 35-40 degree temps the linkage to the IP was very stiff and would take a second to come back to idle after I let off. After the engine warmed up the heat from the engine got into the linkage and thinned the old dirty grease a little. Taking the linkage apart, cleaning, and applying a little bit of new grease fixed the problem.

All five MB's I've owned have had "stiff" pedals....ladies?

Yep. I forgot to add that the pedals in my 300D are considerably stiffer than my dad's Volvo S70.

IMHE, they're all relatively stiff.

Unless you are in a Benz with "throttle-by-wire" such as in the 210. Can be a bit mushy.

I advise you clean out the grease in all of the sockets and use ATf as is recommended. Try also lubricating the slide on the back of the pedal.

Stiff gas pedal not normal, mine is smooth as silk after lubing it. I'd say use grease rather than ATF. The ATF does not last long at all, just runs every where.

The brakes are firm in these cars. Not touchy or overboosted at all, and the brake pedal does not travel very far. I love the W123 brakes!

Actually the "stiffness" that I am referring to only happens after the car has been running for a while; the pedal becomes all or nothing....it's like the car does not want me to give it fuel....then I have to punch it to get it to move???? I can't be the only one with this problem.
