In Tank Fuel Strainer? Do I have one?

Is there on an 87 SDL?

I had a very dirty batch of fuel in my tank which I pumped out, but I've still got a problem, dirt, air... If there is a filter how do I get it out?.. I see the fuel line attaches to the bottom of the tank and I can take off the fitting with a wrench, but the strainer would have to be a lot smaller than I expect to be on the other side of it.

Thanks for the help,
Bill

I don't have the 87 SDL. Couple other members do.

But... I am pretty sure you have the same strainer as all the W126 bodies.

After removing the fuel line from the bottom of the tank, there is another
larger fitting, takes a 1 7/8 inch socket (46 or 47mm) and on my W126 300SD
is hard to do because it is directly above the axle.

This larger flange/nut is possibly hidden by a little padding at the opening.

The parts catalog here on FastLane lists one, so there must be one.

I made a removal tool from an old big bolt & nut I had. Welded them and use my breaker bar.

Thanks guys... I was confused because I only saw the return line... a little more examination and I found the supply. I got lucky, mine was incredibly easy to get off, and boy was it filthy. Just for a test I put it under the spigot... water wasn't even coming thru.

Thanks again,
Bill
