Uhm yea. Exactly.

What would be really useful rather than this dvd based crap would be a nav system that updated its maps via evdo wireless and provided real time traffic views and even satellite style views of the terrain like Google earth does.

The traffic data would make the system useful on an everyday basis. I work with cutting edge technology on a daily basis. A little LCD screen showing me where I am on an outdated 4 color map does not really impress me much. If I needed turn by turn directions on a regular basis a smartphone would provide more functionality and real time access to the internet to obtain updated information.

I can update mine online. I am not worried about the new stuff, I usualy know where they are. If you are familer with New England you know its very old and was developed in a hap hazard manner. So their are a lot of very small streets, some of them in my town are damn near 400 years old, and have like three houses on them. Its very hard to know the names of all these streets, so if you need to find a house on Acorn Ln, well hmm where is that now. The GPS will point you in the right direction.

I prefer maps for interstate travel.
