stuck at work, help radiator nipple broke
I think my nipple broke on the radiator where the hose attaches from the coolant resevoir.
Is there a bandaid fix....to get me home..... It looks like there is a plastic nipple attached to the radiator the skinny hose from the overflow coolant resevoir and the plastic niple broke off in the hose.... Help.... Do I need a new radiator.

Man, this seems to be happening to a lot of people lately. If it's not too hot out, you "should" be able to make it home - just watch your temp. guage. You will lose some fluid and may make a mess of your engine - so be warned. I ended up replacing my radiator - do a search for radiator nipple.

I did the same thing - hit the resevoir line with my elbow messing with the air intake and snapped it off - ended up getting a new radiator
someone needs to come up with a "shield" to protect that exposed piece - way too easy to snap off

Yup me too- messing with the air intake... Seems like they could have at least added another foot to the hose to give you more room.

damn....
that is what I was working on. Changing the air clearer mounts....
I am thinking of the insert fix....

Hmm, when I rebuilt my air cleaner mounts, I disconnected the hose from the expansion tank... I just felt like things were too close, I guess from all the broken line posts, I got lucky!
of course, it didn't help by much, the lower tank on the radiator was bad anyway... John

Same here, working on the air filter.
Perhaps all work done on the passenger side of the 617 motor should begin with; "Remove Radiator Overfill Hose!"

I made it home, loosened the cap, temp did not get about about 85C and I was able to jam the overflow hose into the opening where the nipple broke off, it actually didn't even look like it leaked anymore I am thinking about ordering a Nissen Radiator and hoses from **************. I have ordered a few parts before from him, and according to him the Nissen is a better radiator than the Behr. Any opinions here? Also, what type of job am I looking at... radiator and both hoses...

somebody take pics of this problem, give me some info. Im a 124 guy, but have a side business fixing crap like this on my track car VWs and BMWs. We have access to a gazillion dollars in CNC equipment. If its machineable, we can fix it...

BTW, if it's like mine (which it should be), you only have to remove the top clamp on the oil cooler, the bottom one will just slide off when you lift the radiator. I also found that I didn't have to remove the fan, I just disconnected the fan shroud and moved it toward the engine. The whole job only took about an hour. Be careful not to over-tighten the hose clamps on the new radiator.
