tobybul,
Thanks for posting the pictures. It would appear that the flex pipe is part of the exhaust header; not a seperate piece. That was what I did not understand.
Thanks

Eventually I'll try at it again with an extractor bit or something.

Sometimes they are really stuck and it takes massive amounts of penetrant and force...which ones aren't cooperating? Its probably harder on a 300D too, less room in there.
Actually, I got all the the bolts off (with some tips from WHunter) incl loosening one end off the engine shock on both sides. Tried jacking it up at the pan but the mount would not separate from where it sits. Heat shield wouldn't even move.

How far did you jack it up? If the old mounts are fairly collapsed then it may take a few inches at least for it to lift away from the mount. I think when I did mine I loosened the bolt going into the engine support arm first, then the shock, then I raised the engine so it would pull away from the mount, then I loosened the little bolts holding on the mounts.

Their stock, I grabbed a junkyard exhaust, chopped the resonators and muffler, patched with some pipe, and put it on.. Definitely miss the LOUDNESS from letting it out at the downpipe, but its less smelly inside..

I went with straight pipe after my felx failed because i liked the sound. I used 2.5 inch fince posts for my exhaust. i was up at my dads and went to the harware store... 20 bucks for the pipe. If you use the fince posts... weld it outside, they are galvanised! bad for your lungs while welding... but on the other hand my exhaust is still shinny silver.
