Can't help you with the broken piece but there is no vacuum line missing. That's the vent to atmosphere for the altitude compensator.

The broken piece connects from the transmission vacuum modulator to the transmission- it supplies the correct amount of vacuum to the transmission so that it will shift differently at different RPMs. At idle, the valve will allow full vacuum to the transmission, and at redline it will supply no vacuum.

That part is for auto transmissions only...looks like your engine is a transplant. Pull it off and remove the rod.

Picture 2: That nipple is NOT supposed to have anything on it, it should be open to the atmosphere.

i don't know if i should be happy that there's nothing broken or concern that the engine is a transplant. what does that mean anyways, that particular part broke once and was replaced with one from an automatic, 300d or auto 240d. does it affect my engine in anyway ?

what about the minor leak, normal ?

Do you have a manual or automatic transmission?

OK, just confirming. As stated above, that linkage controls the vacuum valve for the automatic transmission modulator. You don't need it.

There are no anti rejection drugs for these transplants. Many older mercedes diesels have had other merecedes diesel engines installed over time.
They are a very expensive engine to rebuild is the usual reason. Another used donar engine is usually just a much cheaper alternative for many.

Either the engine is a transplant. Or the transmission was converted from an automatic to a manual.

On your 2nd photo, I was told this is normal, in fact looks just like mine. Has to do with IP and higher attititudes.

Is yours an auto, or manual.

Third option, the IP could have been replaced with a used one from an auto car at a wrecking yard, since they are most common and perform identically on the fuel delivery end of things.
