124 AC possible short?
 

I am sure the answer is in this forum somewhere but either I missed it or I am using the wrong key words to search.

My wife's 1995 E300 D is having an A/C problem. Seems when she drives through a puddle or goes through a car wash the AC stops blowing cold and blows hot. After the car dries out it all works normal. I am assuming it is an electrical short somewhere. Any suggestions on where to start looking and what to do when I find it?

Replace the belt.
If it's like the earlier 124, when the compressor slows due to a slipping belt the relay will shut it down.
The splash is the clue there. Is your cover still under the engine?

Yes, the bottom cover os stillon (well it was 2 days ago when I changed the oil). So you think it's the belt and not watter geting into a plug or what have you? I washed the car the other day and the same thing happened. I did 3 restarts on it and still no air. I parked at the airport for 1 hour and when I came back out I had AC. I have noticed a chirping under the hood (like a slipping belt) so I guess that is a cheap theory to test.
