DUH? What's the light beside seatbelt on 240D dash?
I don't have a manual and trying to figure out what is the light on the dash beside the seat belt sign on a 1983 240D automatic? It's a solid white light.
I know it's one of those DUH questions but anyway. Thanks, WNCMAN

There's nothing right next to the seat belt light on either side of it. Two spaces to the right is the yellow glow plug light.

Nope, there shouldn't be a light in that socket, the only two on that side are the seat belt and the glow plug.

The owners manual from my '82 300, shows nothing just to the left, or right for that matter. You may have an extra light behind the dash, or a black panel is missing from dash. Either way, you'll have to pull the cluster to find out.

I looked again and my glow plug light is to the right but the solid white light that comes on sometimes for only a couple of seconds is to the left of seatbelt sign.
Thanks, WNCMAN

Does it mimmic the GP light? I have an extra cluster lying about, there are sockets aplenty, still think it's useless, if you can live with it, I don't see how there's any problems disregarding.

Nope, that one's on the left side of the cluster, directly to the right of the brake system warning light, which is directly to the right of the battery warning light.
-edit- Yesterday when I got in the car to go to work I realized I had goofed up on that order, but they are still on the right side, lol. When I got my 80, someone in the past had misplaced the bulb & socket for the seat belt warning, had it going to a greenish colored plain lens that sat between the seatbelt light and glow light, it was easy to figure out where the light went to, and those were the only 2 on that side of the cluster, there were 4 holes though, I suppose someone did the same to his car only they went in the other direction, if it comes on for a few seconds with the key (shorter cycle than the glow light) then thats most likely it.

Are there extra sockets in the warning light area or just places to put in extra sockets? Can legends or lables be changed easily? I am thinking of adding some extra lights for the WVO system.
Thanks,

Yes and yes. But the labels are in a strip of 4 rectangles for that right side. Left to right they're like 1, 2, 3, 4; #2 and #4 are marked, #1 and #3 aren't.
#2 is for the seatbelt. #4 is for the GP light. I think #3 was for the ABS, not sure what #1 was for:

Mine has an ABS light next to the seat belt light to the right. To the left is blank. BUT when I pulled the cluster, the empty socket was covered with really flimsy, deteriorated masking tape. If your tape has fallen off, it might just be stray light from one of the adjacent bulbs or something. Does it mimic any other light?
The extra spots are just empty holes, but if you could find some sockets they'll pop right in. You could easily move your seat belt light to another socket, it just wouldn't sat seat belts anymore. I had the same idea as you, need to find some light sockets.

It means your toast is done. Pull over, open the hood, remove toast. You have been doing this, haven't you? Ignoring the Toast Light can cause a serious toast backup in your flavenghruven valves, and buddy, you don't want that.
