New Motor mounts :)

WOW,

I just installed two new motor mounts, and WOW, it only took me an hour ( with a pit) and they really make a hell of a difference, the car doesn't lurch forward anymore when I blip the throttle in park!!
I do however have two dead engine shocks. I feel a little higher vibration as a result of the new mounts, and I really don't mind it. can I do away with the shocks all together?

I did exactly what you did. i chenged the mounts and discovered my shocks were bad. i just took the shocks off. i drove like that for 3 months until i could afford to get some new shocks. i installed the new shocks and it was amazing how much they make a diffrence.

but to answer yoru question, go for it. you can run without the shocks. the shocks just make it so it doesn't shake the piss outta ya at idle.

Before I did the mounts, I couldn't even have a cup of coffee in my cup holder without it sloshing around. Imagine this:

The flex tube that goes from my air cleaner to the snorkel would pop itself off of the air cleaner because the engine moved that much when I put my foot into it. that's how bad my mounts were. if I revved it with the hood up, I could swear it was trying to roll itself out of my engine compartment!!

but all is good now gonna go do some surfing on Ebay for shocks

how hard

I need to do this on my 85 300cd. How hard was the job. I know it just took an hour, but how bad was it........what level of mechanic would it require.

Yeah, it was EASY. In and out in an hour, the biggest obstacle is going to be the 6mm allen head bolts that hold the mount on the frame rail, but if you go to **************.com you can get a special tool to make that easier.

a Q while I'm typing here, my shields that are on top of the mounts. Mine were broken enough that I couldn't put them back on, are they required??

I think I saw mine today

DO you do the job from the top or underneath. I think I saw the place the mounts are, aren't they rectangular... I too had a shield I am guessing is covering the mounts. Are there just two...

It's sort of done from both sides, but mostly from underneath. If you can get the car high enough (safely) to roll underneath it should be easy. The 6mm allen head bolts from the top are going to be a bit of both, from underneath and on top. I used a pit, which made the whole thing easier, but I think if I were on my back, the allen head bolts may have been a little easier. But, it was also my first mount change job, so I didn't really know what to expect.

I would recomment a chain hoist (or crane) as opposed to a block of wood and a jack under the oilpan..

Engine Shocks

Dont those shocks prevent the huge to-and fro shake at startup and shutdown? I would imagine this could hurt other things over time?
