manual transmissions

Can anyone tell me how much flexibility there is for transmission swaps from auto to manual between the different models? Concretely, will a 5-speed manual from a 1984 190E work for a 1993 300D 2.5?
Thanks a lot
Ah, part number for the donor transmission is 124 260 01 01 717 411 00 013 084

The engine in the 1984 190D is the 4-cylinder 2.2L OM601.

So all of the 60x motors have the same bellhousing. Which gas motors have the same bellhousing as the 60x motors?

And the 61x motors all have a different bellhousing. Which of the gas motors have the same bellhousing as the 61x motors? The V8s in the SL? The 280 inline 6?

The M110 (2.8L I-6) is about it. The 200, 230, 250 (in the W123's) use a drivers side starter.

2.2 OM601 72hp
2.5 OM602 90hp
2.5 OM602 120hp (turbo)
2.9 OM602 129hp (Direct injection, intercooled, turbo)
3.0 OM603 148hp (turbo)
