DIY: Installing an aftermarket horn
Installing a Stebel Nautilus Compact
Step 1: Disconnect the battery Step 2: remove the under dash panel on the drivers side. You can leave it hanging or remove it since if you will add the switch here Step 3: notice the large 14 pin or so connector.. remove it and locate the Black/yellow/pink wire... snip it and strip the ends. add a barrel type connector Step 4: locate your switch and stick it where you want.. I put mine on the kick panel so I mounted it and left it in place while plugging it together (I vacuumed after I took the pic) Step 5: wire the factory horn to the toggle switch I used a center off position and I can toggle between the two the switch had 6 pole and I used the right side for both horns. Step 6: mount the horn somewhere. Mount it per manufactuers directions. I.E. mine could not be mounted horizontally or it would void the warrenty. this is a good spot and their is room on the opposite side of the car for another if you want I used a hole that was already avaliable but I made it wider to fit the bolt that came with the horn. Also I modified the horn so I could bolt it from the top. It also had a hole on top of the mounting chunk so I just bored that out as well... Step 6: Wire the horn per the manufactures directions.. which means.. use the relay that came with the kit. Mine was nothing more than a 30 amp relay that I found at radioshack while getting spade connectors. Step 7: go over your connections and reconnect the battery. Test the toggle switch and make sure no one is under the car during.Honk the horn , tick the neighbors off w/e it takes to make sure it works Step 8: clean up and bolt what ever you unbolted back thats what I did.. it was fun to do and such the horn is really loud.. doesnt seem like it from in the car but in front its loud I would add another horn to balance it out. I think my right side OEM horn is dead .. dont ask why I think.. I just do |
