Diesel Filler Neck Mod - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

Well, I tried to hack out the webbing in the tank filler neck and it tore the metal. Had it taken to a radiator/gas tank shop where they cleaned it out and brazed it so it wouldn't leak and took out the web. Filled up yesterday and it filled up like before. Only difference is that now I can go to the big trucks area.

Reason I did this was that my favorite station with the lowest price has only 2 small pumps and at the edge of the covered area. 20 other pumps in better areas. Got tired of pumping in bad weather. Also, when they were low on diesel, only a couple of the big pumps were working. Went to another station and they only had big pumps of the better grade of diesel (premium diesel). Got tired of that all now I can fill up anywhere I choose.

99 E300 Turbodiesel.

Hmm, on my vehicles, I have always been able to use the big pumps... of course, they flow FAST@!!! ya gotta be carefull when the tank gets close to full. foam splashes really far.

I haven't had that problem but I have only filled once using the lowest setting. Will try more to report later on the week.

I have never had a problem using the "big rig" pumps at truck stops.

Fuel is clear up into the filler neck tube by the time most pump handles hit their auto-cutoff on my W210. I worry that if I was using the high-speed pump, there'd be a brief but messy moment of spewing.

That said, I waited in line behind an 18-wheeler at my favorite B100 pump here last week, and watched him cram 1,050 gallons into his rig in a remarkably short time.

You don't have the webbing that makes you have to use the small pumps?

my 79 is wide open, my 82 has a bit of webbing on the top, but if I cock the big nozzel in at an angle, it flows just fine.

Just put the first inch or so of the the tip and be careful how fast/full you let it fill.

i pulled into a Giant Eagle GetGo station..and pulled up to the diesel pump..took it off the rack.put it in to the tank and looked at it...it was like 3x bigger..didnt quite fit lol i never saw anything like that..then again i always used the not-truck diesel pump at the truck stop...
