Ironic that I had to buy a German enigineered car! But it keeps that very, very tiny part of my gene pool, the aryan one, very, very happy.

American Mutt that I am.

Peace y'all. out.
Exactly my reason that I'm driving the world's best engineered, longest lasting Diesel Automobile....W123 w/ OM617.xxx .......and the reason that I drive 100miles one way to purchase a couple of 55's of Bio-Diesel every couple of months...... because those folks who grow the crops don't want to change my lifestyle, and don't want to kill me because I am a non-believer and infidel....... although I am not of German decent, I am a Bohunk/Norge half-breed.....so I have some of those Ayrian genes as well.....

OK. Fair enough. What about all the other oil products? You do realize that most of your products are going to be oil tainted, right? Just like fuel, how do you know which ones were from oil that you pumped from where? You sure that the keyboard you are typing on is not made from oil bought from the ME? What about that nice car you are driving? Does it have any ME oil tainted products? Gone are the days where you can boycott a country, a group, etc, etc.

All true. We do what we can when we can. It's like me not shopping at WalMart. Does it make that much of a difference? not likely. Does it keep me true to my principles? yes.
Same with oil, I'll avoid products when it makes fiscal sense (or at least isn't fiscal suicide).

IOW, I'll have my principles WHEN IT IS CONVENIENT.

Principle : a comprehensive and fundamental law, doctrine, or assumption b (1) : a rule or code of conduct (2) : habitual devotion to right principles c : the laws or facts of nature underlying the working of an artificial device

Notice Webster doesn't mention anything about convenience. I don't think you can have it both ways. You either have a principle and you stick to it or you don't have a principle. You can't keep the principle when it is convenient and drop it when it is inconvenient and claim to have your principles.

You can have your principles, and yet violate them when you have little or no choice. Sometimes avoiding what you don't want simply costs too much to be a viable solution. 10% more? sure. 150% more? no.

So what you are saying is that we follow the code until it gets too difficult (determined by individual standards) and get to call it a principle?

If having sex with another woman besides the wife is against my principle, can I still be within my principles if I say "But Honey. It wasn't just any woman. It was my fantasy of Briana Banks and Jenna Jameson at the same time."?

If you can decide when to and when not to follow a certain code, how is that a principle? You can call it a general rule but a principle? I think not.
