where is the start in park switch trans or shifter

my car a 83 300sd is sometimes not turning over on the starter
lately the problem is getting worse happening more often
it willnot ever start in neutral, should it??

anyway where is the switch and how can I disable it
so I donot get stuck with a nonstarting car
is it switch open or closed to allow the starter to work?
cut what wire or twist which wires together??

no I am not going to a dealer/stealer or paying for overpriced parts
if a simple ghetto fix will allow the car to start

mounted to the side of the trans on drivers side, but a simple ghetto fix can get someone killed, they call it a neutral safety switch for a reason.
only $50.00 here http://catalog.worldpac.com/mercedesshop/sophio/quote.jsp?clientid=catalog.mercedesshop&cookieid=22S1A7A8T22S1A7DXG&baseurl=http://catalog.peachparts.com/&partner=mercedesshop&year=1983&product=J4050-11778&application=000039637

Bypassed mine 2 years ago, no kittens squashed yet!! Actually it's easy to bypass, there's a connector on the side of the tunnel on the driver's side where the wires can be connected together. Don't be surprised if you end up putting a starter in it, the windings can go bad-you'll have to smack it with a tire iron or a hammer to get it started!

It may also be that your shifter bushings are worn and the shift linkage is not always engaging the switch. I hear the shift bushing are no fun to switch but at least they are cheap. Less than $12 for all 6.

My bushings are worn and until I realized it I could never get it to start in park then I figured out how to jiggle the shifter just so and it starts most times. It always starts in neutral. My wife has the same car as me except with only 200K and it shifts so much tighter because the bushing are not worn out. Time for me to do mine.
