606.910:" I dont need no stinkin' turbo"
Have to say that I'm mildly impressed with the acceleration in the 606.910 engine. Giving the old "Italian" tuneup as I try adn clear the soot from an "underperforming" glow plug. Not bad zing at all.
Who needs a turbo!? ( actually I do want a turbo someday,er, two of them actually, on a destroked 505 ci Chevy bbc to get to 1100hp with a stock idle). Will have to stick my old Gtech on the windshield and see what 0-60 is. I bet its 10-11 seconds. Any 95 E300s out there that have measured it? I know its faster than an older 82 I drove years ago. |

I think factory spec for 0-60 in that car was closer to 14 seconds. I'll be very interested to hear what you find. I have the '98 Turbo, and for a diesel, it's remarkably spry once you get past the lag up to 2500rpm or so.

1995 E300D 606.910 2.87 rear ratio, 134hp@5000RPM, 155lb/ft@2600RPM, 13.4 0-100km/h, max speed 123mph.
Interesting to note that the 90-93 300D with the 602.962 motor produces more torque at a lower RPM than the 606.910. Everything else is almost identical, with acceleration within a second or so.

Cool. I'm not "dissing" turbos at all here, I think they're the power enhancer of choice among many applications. But this little N/A diesel does ok. Once I get tranny and rear end fluids swapped out, I'll do a bit-o Gtech work.
