rear window(not the movie!)

I have recently discoverd some leakage in trunk and traced to rear window.after reading several of the archival posts on the subject,I am still a bit unclear on how to remove the chrome trim around rear window. As I understand the posts that I read,it gets cut? out?any insights?

Can anyone expand on the process of rear trim removal, please

Rebreath,

I have an 83 300D and I just replaced the rear window seal on my sedan. The chrome trim gets pried out. There is a groove the rubber seal the tang on the trim sit in. The trim is very soft and bends very easily.

Here's what you do if it's so cold your diesel fuel gels. Smear some on some toast and stay inside until it warms up outside.

I just did rear glass repairs on my wagon....has similar glass setup with the metal trim, etc.

Do not remove the metal trim before you remove the window! That trim comes right out with the glass & rubber, holding the rubber seal in shape onto the window.

You remove the window by pushing from the inside of the car onto the rubber lip so that the lip is on the other side of the metal frame...do this slowly all the way around the window and by the time you are most of the way around the window, it should come free as one assembly (window/rubber/metal trim). Once the window is out, separate the metal from the rubber, rubber from the glass, clean everything, repair rust, etc., etc....

When you put the window back, you first assemble the glass/rubber/metal trim assembly, then install that all at once.

Good Luck,

Mark

I have never seen or heard of this being removed or installed as one component. How did you discover to do it this way?

- Peter.

I don't know where you get your info, but the removal and installation are described in the factory manual and they are always to be conducted as one assembly (window+seal+trim).

Interesting, I was of the impression there was a special spoon used to remove/install the trim before/after window removal/install.
