In NH over the past few days gas has really gone up but diesel is pretty much where it has been for months. Now diesel is right around $2.80 and RUG is at least $0.10 more on average, so, yes, it is nice to see diesel being a "bargain" again.

in mass, lets say diesel is 2.899, then gas will be 2.759. then 2 weeks later, they will both cost 2.859. its been years since ive seen diesel cheaper than regular unleaded in massachusetts. head up north into new hampshire about 40 minutes, and diesel is 12 cents cheaper. diesel cost less to refine because there is less of a process to get it, so is there some hidden taxes on this stuff or are we all just getting screwed?

Gas in Seattle is about 3.35-3.40. #2 Diesel is 3.14. B99 is 3.09. I get about 38 MPG w/B99 and about 34 w/#2 in my '86 190D 2.5 A/T. Uncle Sam slices off about $1 a gallon on B99.

It's a no-brainer for me.

I just drove by a station in LA advertising premium gas at $4.09 and #2 diesel for $3.17 -- almost a dollar difference. Wow. I'm still paying $3.49 for biodiesel, though, the same price it's been for the last 18 months.

Wouldn't it be great if it stayed that way? Remember a year ago we were contemplating adding gassers to our stables because diesel was through the roof while gas was cheap[er]....the tables have turned!

Its about time is all I have to say! At my usual station, diesel dropped two cents to $2.89, regular is like $3.05. The price of diesel is also very stable, unlike gas.

Ohio 2.89 Diesel, 3.09 Gasoline

Diesel should be cheaper always, but this mandatory shiftover to ULSD -- which i hate! has apparently cost lots of money to implement -- ie. the consumer pays the cost in the long run.

I don't go for the rants about how prices are fixed. Doesn't make any sense, because if they fix the prices, why would prices ever go down. I seem to remember a time not too long ago when prices were in the low $1.00 range (2002) and 1998 it was about $.88 for a short period of time. Then, back in the late 80's the oil market collapsed and cheap gas for all again. Historically, inflation adjusted, the years of most expensive fuel were #1 - 1981 at about $3.80 (i think, maybe its more like $3.50) , #2 - 1980, #3 - 1922, and so on, including an average of $2.20-2.40 in the 50's, the so called era of 'cheap fuel'. Seems to me that politicians and whoever is the president have nothing to do with it. And frankly, if fuel cost is your biggest concern, either you rely on it for a livelihood, or you can't control your personal budget very effectively -- a couple dimes (or in this case a couple of dollars) per gallon shouldn't break the budget. if it is, go get some more money or cut back on expenses.

I keep thinking the same thing. For some reason everyone likes to complain about the cost of fuel (probably because it's so visible), while no one seems to notice the cost of everything else in life going up at a similar or faster rate. I probably drive more than most folks (about 35-40K miles per year) and I still spend less than $5000 per year on fuel. Most folks are only talking about a few $100 increase if fuel goes up by $1/gallon, probably about 10% of what they spend at starbucks in a year. I know it's fun to complain about, but it's really not a major expense for most people.

i drive 20,000+ Fuel costs do matter to me 'some' (blending WVO has helped alot assuming no ill effects later )

I focused on the cutting expenses part. Like i don't watch much TV, so i canceled it (got an 56' tall tower w/antenna for HDTV though). Electric bill: < $20, Water ~ $13, Gas Bill ~ $40, Telephone ~ $15, Insurance/Medical: <$50, Property Taxes: ~ $50, No trash service ~ $20 (Incinerator for all non-plastic/non-metal), Not a payment in the world. Biggest expense is food, probably HA! Awwww life is good and Cheap!

Here in central Oklahoma at the store where I work, diesel is $2.67 and RUG is $2.89. I swear I'm going to go take a picture of it and put it as my background on my computer. Both my mom and my girlfriend are starting to hint at driving my spare diesels though.

it's as it should be.

Part of the fun of diesel ownership is that it's a cheaper way to travel. Doesn't need to be 1/2 the cost of gas, but it *should* be cheaper. It's easier to refine. It was cheaper for 50 odd years. When it's more expensive, I start looking at my 300SD as a Stanley-Steamer type of curiosity, not a viable transportation option- I'll own it forever, and use it whenever I wish, but if it's cheaper to take my 150+mph Audi Quattro running hi-test, something's not right. I smile knowingly when i see diesel at 15c or more below RUG nowadays- all is right in the world. If I have to pay more than premium gas prices, I want the acceleration of a 560SEL!

Central coast in California , diesel= $2.99, 87 octane RUG= $3.45 and climbing. Diesel has been quite stable for a couple of months.

Since Costco soybean oil has increased in price to about 3.10 / gallon up from $2.65 / gallon last year, I'm still using dino juice for now.
