w126 low fuel light
I'm trying to figure out if my fluel light on my 81 300sd works without accidentally running out of fuel. I know on the 123s the light turns on for a few seconds when you first turn the key. Can anyone with 126 tell me if thier fuel light comes on when they first turn the key.
Edit: Oops shoulda specified that all my idiot lights come on but the fuel light. Is it supposed to come on w/ the others?

Yes. Same deal. Idiot lights, light when key turned as a diagnostic.

I'm not 100% sure, but, I recall that the light won't come on for the earlier versions of the SD. Since you have an '81, it might.......and I stress might....be possible that the light works fine but won't come on when the key is first put in the #2 position.
Personally, I don't trust the light anyway. Figure on using 20 gallons of fuel on the SD. In theory, you can go 550 miles with it if you can get 27.5 mpg. |

I have an 83 SD and the light comes on when you turn the key, but I would second Brian C's uncertainty... the earlier ones may not be the same.
In my old 81 300TD T, the low fuel ("reserve") light didn't come on when you turned the key, but it did work (the fuel gauge didn't work, so I just used the light as a warning occasionally when I would forget to fill up). I don't think ANY of the other idiot lights came on with that one though, so maybe if your other ones come on, you should expect that the reserve light should too.
