Can you ID my engine?

and
http://www.mx5ireland.com/members/srigley/Merc/85estate/STA70330.JPG

Its been suggested thats its from a w201 2.5TD (now fitted to my W123 '85 200TE 5speed manual)

Also, can you tell me where the line arrowed in the pic below should be connected to? Its lying loose at the other end (would this explain my smoke issue under boost.. the car is v.sluggish BTW)

many thanks,

You have an OM602.961 from a 190D 2.5T.

I believe you have the lines crossed. The line from the manifold should go to the device with your red arrow (ALDA) and that vacuum line should go to the smaller hump below it (shutoff actuator).

Do you have to stop the engine manually?

Picture.

You have these hoses routed wrong. That's why it's so sluggish and you have smoke.

Fantastic ! Thanks for the feedback! Will change 'em over later and get back to you.
Yes, I have a pull switch in the cabin to stop the engine.
So, where should the ends of those hoses attach? The Alda one connects to..?

The smaller plastic one is supposed to go to the ignition switch. Since your car started as a gasser, it probably does not have it.

The one going to the ALDA attaches straight to the intake manifold to sense boost pressure and give you more power.

What's the VIN number?

It looks like your car was a 250TD from the beginning. I'm sure I've seen that car on the internet before.

I got this picture on the W123 Club MSN forum.

Yup, thats the same car, it was a 200T originally (ran it through the Russian VIN decoder)
Model 200 T
Chassis 123XXXXXXXXXXX
Engine 102920 XX XXXXXX
Transmission 717401 00 038840
Order 0 5 537 56010
Approx. year 1985
Lights BOSCH
Cab 00496
Dealer Great Britain (537)
Interior fabric date (054)
Paint 681
Options

I met the previous owner via the forum on the MSN W123 (nice guy!)
Am hoping to restore the car over the next few months (just completed the brakes ... rear lines were frozen to the flexi hoses, some leccy issues, drive train is v.loose probably just mounts tho)

Going to switch the hoses this eve so hopefully will have more boost and less smoke ;-)

one more Q

looking at the engine pics in the posts above ^ what is that ABS/SLS type pump sitting behind the passenger side (RHD) headlight? It doesn't look like SLS pumps I've previously seen... haven't actually traced the lines yet...

Cheers

The ABS item is the motor for the Anti-lock brakes.

Lastly, I forgot to ask... when I changed over the hoses, I noticed some oil weeping from the tube fitting on the Alda, is this normal ?

The car doesn't smoke half as much anymore, just a little at idle, there is also a slight miss (which results in a small puff of smoke from the exhaust), where would I start looking for a solution to this?
