Electric Windows issue 1985 300D

Hi All--

The front drivers side window and rear passenger side window stopped working on my 1985 300D. The problem was intermittent for a while, then they just stopped completely. It seemed odd to me that those two windows went out at the same time, and I assume that means it's not likely the window motors. Has anyone else had this problem before, and if so, is there a simple solution I should look for (something particular in the wiring harness, switches or fuses????).

Thanks in advance,

Michael

Fuses, first.

Oh, yes, of course... I checked all the fuses and couldn't figure out which one was for those windows... and a visual inspection showed all fuses to be good (I know that's not reliable, of course). Does the same fuse handle just those two windows, and if so, which one? TIA!

Windows are fused kitty-corner, just as you've described your failure mode. Bad fuse, should be marked on inside of fuse box lid.

Yes, the same fuse deals with those windows. Replace regardless of visual inspection.

Most of the time...

window failure is due to bad switches or loose switches in the center console. The motors do burn out after maybe 340K. About 420K sometimes the sliding frame mechanism has a mechanical failure
