Since you are flushing fluids, change and flush the power steering out and install a new filter. Nice looking ride.

Haven't had this much stuff planned out since my 86 Jetta. Thanks for filling my schedule.

Is it better to do the purge with a cold or warm engine ?
Also, it is a problem to replace the cigar hose with just conventional 3/8" fuel line ?

Just installed PIAA Extreme whites for the high/low and PIAA Ion Crystal yellows for the fogs. Verrrrrrrry nice.

I do purges on a cold engine, it'll take 15-20 minutes, so you'll get up to operating temp. Replacing the cigar hose, many have done, haven't heard of any problems. It acts like a damper, so you don't get "kick back", on the fuel during idle.

you may be ok replacing the cigar hose, but it's 5/16" not 3/8" line....
(actually, I am sure it's 8MM, not 5/16")

The cigar hose is shaped that way for a reason. Wouldn't it be better to replace it with the right thing especially as it's so cheap?

Thanks for all the pointers guys. Really appreciate it.
A few more.
- Doors Sometimes don't lock but when they do, I hear the pump in the trunk. When they don't, I don't hear the pump. Bad door switch ?
- Temp seems to run around the 100 mark at idle, when maintaining speed and up grades but when going downhill, drops to just above the 80 mark. Normal ?
- Owners manual states fuel capacity as "20.3 gallons including a reserve of 3.3 gallons." Is that 23.6 gallons total or 20.3 including the reserve ?

Replaced pads & rotors all around and changed the oil today. Left front pins were a pain in the ass to remove. Mutilated one. Picking up new ones tomorrow. Saturday will be belts and diff fluid, some warning lamp bulbs if I can find them - some dim, and possibly hoses & coolant flush.

Drove about 180 miles tonight, from home (north Jersey) to a friends in south Jersey to pick up some paperwork and back. I decided to go to my usual truck stop on the way home to check the accuracy of the fuel gauge. With it still reading over 1/4 tank, it took 14 gallons and a total of 340 miles since I got it = 24 mpg. Not bad considering the previous owner only put 20,000 miles on it in the 4 years he owned it. Running diesel clean in the tank and gonna purge on Saturday. Tonight's trip probably burned off a lot of build up from the last 4 years.

How'd you mutilate the clip? I like ate for their pins have a built in fastener. the Bendix calipers have nicer springs, but that little hairpin is annoying.
on the door pump, it could be a flakey fuse, or doorswitch/ frayed wiring in the doorjamb. or of course it could be a bad pump.
I think the total capacity is 20.3 my OM says 17.3 gallons, plus 3gallons reserve capacity. if yours says 20.3 Plus 3 then you have a larger tank, if it says 20.3 including reserve, you have the same tank as I have.

oh, and I don't know if you have this on your list, or if you have already done it, but the powersteering fluid and filter should be changed too. also your brake fluid.

Don't sweat the temp gage changes. Diesel engines behave differently than gassers under varying loads- going downhill, less work=less fuel burned, and the engine temp drops along with it. This happens on all my diesels, even the 6.9 in my truck.

That's also a possible way to indicate advanced stages of fuel filter clogging. Running flat out towing a trailer on level ground w/ a clogged filter in Arizona, my 6.9 F-250's max speed was 35 mph, temp gage was way below normal. A new filter fixed all that.

I personally use the cigar hose, but at $10.00, not cheap compared to a foot and a half of fuel line available at any auto parts store...The way the fuel is worded, total of 20.3...The doors, sounds like vstech has a point, ele. motor not always getting a signal.

I don't do it myself, but it seems to be common advice to replace the rubber fuel hoses with Vitron if you're going to run B100. And of course be ready for multiple filter changes while the bio cleans out your system.

I have Bendix calipers and it was the hairpin that was siezed. Couldn't find any today and I'm in the parts business. I'll try the dealer or else I may just replace the calipers since they're original.
