Cool Full rally version of the W123!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMA5cQwn3nI&mode=related&search=

Not a diesel, but its still one awsome W123!

I love the stance with the BBS wheels, and the headlights.

To bad Audi introduced Quatro shortly their after and killed it off.

The 190 series (201 chassis) was meant to be a rally car, but after the introduction of the Quatro by Audi the 2wd era was over. Instead the baby benz went on "rapping" dtm contenders .

Can anyone tell me what they said about the engine? I'd like to know what they did to hop it up.

Thats gotta be one of the sickest W123's I've ever seen. It's got some crazy ideas going around in my head.

PS
Heres a clip of the R107 SLC rally car from back in the day.

It has an M110 in it...six cylinders and uses 'em all!!!

Actually, it didn't strike me as handling all that well...doesn't the front seem to plow (understeer)?

Very cool looking car! It does seem to plow a bit on pavement but I suspect if it was set up for road racing instead of rally racing the suspension would be tuned differently.

Forgive a stupid question, I understand that Carlsson is the driver, but is he also a reknowned MB tuner as well? Only because I know I've seen the name attributed to several race/rally cars I've seen online.

Carlsson is a pretty well known and extreme Mercedes tuner. They do crazy things like take SL55 AMG's and pump the engines to 1khp.

I don't know what mods that M110 has, but I know AMG would put hot cam's and exhuast on them. Carlsson probably did more, I suspect the injection and ignition are messed with, maybe some internal stuff as well.

Perhaps to most but not to the BMW E30 M3, it has the most championship titles. Even if it was a second to the BMW, it was a far second.

Quote:
Having won more road races than any other model in history, the E30 M3 is considered by many to be the world's most successful road race car. Its wins include the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft, European Touring Car Championship and even the one-off World Touring Car Championship title in 1987. The E30 M3 is also a multiple winner of Guia Race, 24 Hours Nürburgring and Spa 24 Hours.
In 2004, Sports Car International named this car number six on the list of Top Sports Cars of the 1980s.

Admittedly I'm new to the MB scene. Even though I've only recently gotten one, I've always had a soft spot for the older diesels. But the fact that I have a TD is more due to luck and timing than anything else. I grew up in a gear head/hot rod family so big American gas powered iron is what I grew up around and still love. But the more I see clips and pics of some of these old MB gassers the more I can see myself parking one in my driveway. I may have to start keeping an eye out for an unloved, forgotten 6.3 that someone just wants out of the way. Maybe go for the semi-race/rally look.

I love this clip of a 6.3 at a drag strip
