Question Engine oil?

I changed the oil in my car,and I put 1 QT of Lucas, and 1 GAL of Oil, and when I checked how much oil there is in my engine, the oil checker showed no oil at all. Do I just need to add more oil, or what? How much oil is needed for the engine for a Mercedes 300D? Thanks!

8 qts! but put in 7-7.5 and check from there to avoid overfill.

Much More

I think you will find that MB diesels don't need -- or like -- Lucas oil additive. Mine doesn't like it.

My car takes almost 7 quarts. Yours most likely has an oil cooler, so it holds more -- start with 7 & top off carefully from there. You don't want it overfilled, tho mine has never shown any signs of distress or extra consumption from an extra pint.

You need to use a diesel-rated oil -- I prefer Mobil 1300, available at WalMart, Advantage Auto, etc.

Lightbulb yuppers

My w126 takes the 7.9qts of oil norm. I too added a bit of Lucas to my engine and to my differential oil.. (its just pure thick petroleum)
My favorite oil of choice is Rotella 15w40, I use it in everything and it is held in very high regards within the diesel trucking industry (fights the soot buildup of diesels best)... (now recently, the price went up to $10.48 a gal.)

Enjoy!

Changed oil in both today. 7 qts. Rotella 15-40, 8oz. Tufoil, 22oz. MOA. My witch's brew, every 3000 miles come heck or high water. Nag dab it! (or is it dag nab it?) Will top as necessary. On the SD did the LM engine clean thing, not sure it helps.

5 quarts? Sounds a little low for an MB. Mine takes about 8, give or take. You have only 5 quarts. BTW, compared to my Powerstroke, you wouldn't even be anywheres closer to the dipstick. Think 15 quarts. . Read them and weep

Yes, 8 quarts if you fill it to the top of the dipstick. I keep 7 to 7.5 in mine.

Didn't someone say that you need to keep it in the middle beteween the min and max marks? Never figured out why.

In the fuel, per ten gallons, I use 1oz acetone and 2 to 3 oz grey PowerService, more PS in winter. Top off oil with Rotella only. aklim, keeping between notches, is fine. Crazy, dad

If I fill mine to the top mark, it will drop half a quart in a week. Then it takes 3 weeks to drop the next half-quart. I suspect that top quart ends up in the air intake.
