Easy question about 300D speedometer
Hey there experienced Benzites,
The speedometer on my '81 300D automatic recently stopped working, so I unscrewed the cable from the back of the instrument cluster and looked at it while I was driving- the cable does not turn at all. So here's the question: can anyone think of an explanation for this other than that the cable is broken or malfunctioning somehow? That's the only thing that makes sense to me, but I have absolutely no idea what happens to the cable once in disappears into the transmission. Any input appreciated before I buy a new cable! thanks, Randy |

Make sure it's screwed all the way onto the transmission. If that does not work, time for a new cable.

water somehow got into my speedo cable and it eventually rusted into 2 pieces
my manual tranny has clamp type assembly to hold the speedo cable in, dunno about automatics.
