I have owned 4 Mercedes vehicles, currently have three of them. One is a ML.
I have owned 7 Mopar vehicles, currently have three of them.

They have all been fine vehicles, although I will admit to some frustration with the ML.

In March I took a 3300 mile trip from Arkansas through Texas, down to Veracruz, Mexico and back in a 1975 Travco Motorhome built on a Dodge Chassis with a 440-3 engine. A 32 year old (totally original, unrestored) Chrysler product, and I did not have any trouble.

So say what you will, but I am hoping that both Daimler and Chrysler can return to their former "glory".

George

Nothing against Chrysler, but I wouldn't buy stock in any U.S. auto manufacturer because I think their time is over. None of the "big 3" have been able to control their labor costs for several decades, and they are still not able to provide a consistent product at a competitive price. DB's efforts to infuse money and technology into Chrysler turned out to be a waste of effort, it did not help either company. At this point, Chrysler may be worth more in pieces than as an intact company. I would not be surprised to see the new owners start to slowly liquidate them and/or aggressively move their manufacturing elsewhere.

I still say that if DC had release a bunch of affordable BLUETEC powered Chrysler SUV's and Light trucks, they could have owned the American Autoways....

I'm sorry to see Chrysler go...... It was soo cool to point to a 300C or Grand Cherokee and say, "that manually shiftable transmission you've got aint no Chrysler, It's a Benz Tranny!" and watch the owner's eyes light up!!

Not sure the American public is ready for that much diesel as you think.

Chrysler , WINS ..Again (or) Maybe the "Hat Trick"

First Chrysler 'Winked the U.S. treasury (spelled you and me) into a "Bailout"
Then they inveigled the German cousins into a "Rescue" with superlative smoke
and mirrors(spelled accounting BEYOND A.Anderson's wet dreams).
Now..as some have pointed out...A new suitor has been enmeshed in the
enterprise.

'Picture the loss of "Monkey on the Back" to Mercedes with a very possible
recompense (by no way to offset the original losses incurred) [@ 20 Percent]
WHEN (Henry Dodge's) and Chrysler's operation is gutted like a mullet for the
geld by the new "Partners"...without the Germanic cousins taking any of the
heat for the baby or bathwater.

Chrysler would have made decent cars, and sold a lot.

The Chinese probably aren't interested in Chrysler anyway, they're waiting for the GM fire sale.

Yeah GM has a better name and products.

This is probably the end of the road for Chrysler if they don't shape up. I suspect Cerberus will hack them apart and sell off the divisions of they don't preform. Well unless thats not the plan already....

I assume that hacking them up was always the plan, they're not really worth anything intact (at least not as much as the sum of the parts). I'll give them about 5 years to dispose of the body.

I'm not sure about the value of Dodge, but the Jeep name has been passed around more than a skull shaped bong in the parking lot of a Dead concert. Someone will buy the names.

Probably the Chinese, maybe pull a Nissan and hide behind an American name for a few years. People are pretty dumb, they will still scream buy American yeah even if Dodge was just a name stuck on a Chinese truck.
