Now that Chrysler is gone!

Heard they are going to recall all the benzes made during the chrysler years and 'rebadge' them "CHRYSLER".

My 1977 240D had one Chrysler product on it, I had it removed simply because it sucked, it was the massive York A/C compressor.

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings......

Your automatic climate control was originally a Chrysler item.......

I don't know how far back the Chrysler / Mercedes link goes.....and.....since Daimler will still hold 20% of Chrysler, I would suspect some future manufacturing alliance as well.......

Actually, the York compressor is not a Chrysler product. They were on Ramblers as well.

The original Chrysler AC compressor was a cool looking V-twin design that worked much better than the rest of their A/C components.

They originally bought Chrysler for around 36 Billion and they sold it for 7 Billion.......Somebody was laughing all the way to the bank on the first deal!!
And 20% of nothing is still nothing...........

Now its time to recall all cars equipped with the OM603.970/971 blocks and replace them with turbocharged and intercooled OM606's.

Talk about a case of: "What were they thinking?" I still can't believe the previous benz management team thought they could save these idiots from themselves. That was an expensive lesson.

Hopefully, they will remove the "C-word" from their name soon.

All I can say is I hope this doesn't adversly affect the relationship between my Jeep and my Mercedes. Right now they get along very well ... no jealousy, no sour grapes, no spitting oil at each others' windshields from across the driveway. Guess I'll have to line them up and have a talk to make sure they understand that just because Chrysler and Daimler are splitting up, it doesn't mean they aren't a family anymore. ;)

Seriously, though, I know a lot of the chassi/body items on Mercedes since the merger have been Chrysler, but isn't a MB engine still pretty much an MB engine? Not that I've ever owned or worked on one, but I don't get the feeling that the CDI or BLUETEC is exactly a piece of cheap trash. Aren't the engines still manufactured entirely by Daimler? Seems to me what's been downhill on recent models has been body, gadgetry, electronics, etc. Am I wrong here?

Future of Sprinter?

Will this change the current Dodge/Freightliner branding and distribution of the Sprinters? Not that it really matters, but I've been saving up for an '07 and there's a dealer right down the street ...

I don't believe this unfortunate relationship adversely affected the quality of recent benz products, but it was a significant cash drain on the company. It was simply a bad business decision.

I remember the V-twin compressor, it could cool very well, but you needed a V8 to power it. My dad has a homemade air compressor he made out of one of those many years ago. It can move serious cfm.

My understand was that they originally said it was a merger so they couldn't tear thru the books as throughly as they would have liked. Once they were in tho, it was difficult to extract themselves out.

The question was whether it was a good deal to sell it at 7 bil. Firstly, nobody else was offering a better deal. Secondly, would it have cost DCX more in the long run to keep Chrysler? Sometimes a divorce is painful but staying on in an unhappy marriage may be even more painful in the long run. Good or bad a decision, I think time will tell.

I guess Dr. Z bought too much Mustache wax.

If there's any question whether Mercedes was going cheap before they bought Chrysler, own an ML320. Many shortcuts and mistakes there.

truckinik 05-15-2007 10:28 PM

Hey, I wish Chrysler, had never had any type of affiliation with Freightliner either. If it were Daimler-Benz-Freightliner, with no Chrysler involved, it would have been a much better result, for everyone.
