w126 Shocks on a w123?

So I forgot where I heard this, but I am pretty sure I remember someone at one point saying 126 shocks would work on a w123. I know the dampening rates will be different with the 126 shocks just due to the size of the 126, but the actual weight of the car is actually pretty close to that of the 123. Would fitting 126 shocks make the ride way to uncomfortable? How much worse would it be than HD's. Is it worth trying?

I will be fitting the Vogtland springs when they come, and I am planning on replacing shocks at the same time and was thinking HD's, and I am aware of their ride quality. I am looking for something stiff so that really isn't a concern for me. I am not driving a long commute everyday, it is more of a short drive, scoot around town car.

So has anyone done this?

FYI, my 300d weighs 3515 lbs and the 500sel (what I was thinking of getting shocks from) runs 3730 lbs. Thats only a 215 lb difference.

I have a brand new pair of Bilsteins left over from my 300SD/81, these are front shocks, what if I install these on my 240D/77 manual would they work ok? The stiffer the better.

well the amg shocks are made by Bilstein, but they are specifically for AMG.

Boardmonger, the stamping on your AMG front Bilsteins doesn't it start with a 126. You would think they were for a 126 chassis used by AMG on the 123 AMG cars to get a stiffer more sportier ride.
My friend is pretty tight with Bilstein, since his family pretty much got them into the off road market in the late 60"s and early 70"s doing r and d and we are still sponsored by them, so I have been trying to get the valving specs on your shocks. If I can do that then I will just build a set of shocks. Let me know how you car rides with the AMG's and the Vogtlands.
Thanks
Jon
