Anybody Changed a 124's Front Flex Disc?

I'm about to change (try to change) my W124 front flexdisc and it looks like a bear of a job to me. I can't see any way to get a wrench on the transmission side of the flexdisc to hold the nuts and bolts while turning from the other side. I suppose I could take the entire transmission down but that doesn't sound like fun. Anyone done this before with a few tips on how to remove that flexdisc?
Thanks,
Nick

p.s. Pls See the attached photo of what I'm talking about with tight space.

Looks like you might be able to get in if you remove the rear trans mount?

Thanks,

If you have the right tools, it should be a quick job. 45 minutes or less from start to finish.

Tools??? Don't you need just a socket wrench and a regular open end wrench to hold the bolt while removing the nut with all 6 bolts?

My problem is getting to the bolts/nuts with the open end wrench to hold it. I can't see enough room.

Fill me in on your trick to do this so quickly. Thanks!

Doesn't sound like you've got the right tools

I didn't do mine. While my transmission was being rebuilt I had them put in a new front disc and then about a month after that I had them replace the rear. I watched them do the rear and it took them no time at all.

Do you have a set of stubby open-end wrenches?

Does anyone know if the transmission needs to be lowered to do the front flex disc on the 124?

You don't need to lower the tranny. You DO need to remove the rear tranny mount, and the bracket that supports the mount. And, you'll need to remove the crosspiece further back, to allow the driveshaft to drop down enough to let the flex disc out. You will need to support the back of the transmission with a jack while the rear mount is removed & lowered. It's not a fun job if you don't have a pit or a lift. Access to the front side of the bolts is very tight.
