the automatic door lock vacuum system does not work and the engine will not turn off when I take the key out.

mechanic says it must be due to leak in vacuum system...wants $200.

Get a mity vac and chase the leak yourself. Sounds like $200 can go even higher.

It's a vacuum problem all right but your time and money is better spent on a Mity Vac and DIY diagnosis. Can you turn off the engine by putting a vacuum hose on the shut off valve and sucking on it?

How long should a normal shut down be?

My 350SD shuts down fine, but it does spin down for 1-2 seconds - sometimes slightly longer - after I turn off the key. Is that abnormal? It's definitely longer than our TDi - it shuts down immediately when the key is turned off. Thanks!

The CD shuts off instantly when turn off key, the SD takes a second or two, don't know why.
