have you replaced the valve cover gasket recently?this can be a source of oil leaks onto the injectors

Have you checked the valve clearance since your major service. The drop in fuel mileage is a puzzlement.
Be interesting too get the compression numbers.

That compression tester screw into the injector hole or glow plug?-quote

The one I have, U.S. General, made in China, isn't that nice? Anyway, has adapters for either. Will need to have all out whichever way you go. When I replaced my GP's on the SD, I wasn't smart enough to do a test.

One step at a time... No, I didn't check the valves and the valve cover is not leaking, this is one reason why I want to wait for the compression numbers and eventually for the injector test results before I go there. You never know, maybe it's fixed with some new injectors; or the compression is so bad that I won't even bother anymore and start looking for a new engine instead, or even better, a new car. Now that I moved up from a 240D to a SDL, my wife wants one, too...

The numbers are in...

I waited almost two weeks for the compression tester and now I'm not even sure anymore if I really wanted to have this tool. It's too honest . OK, here are the numbers:

#1 - 180 psi (this is the oily injector one)
#2 - 300 psi
#3 - 240 psi
#4 - 330 psi
#5 - 260 psi

Why are there such huge differences? #1 is obviously bad, but #4 is almost like new. Interpretations and advice, please...

I could get a used engine with 130k miles for 1800-2000 bucks installed, I just don't have 1800-2000 bucks.

I'm not sure if you mentioned doing a valve adjustment or not, but that would be the place to start. After that is accomplished, a few tbls of oil down the injector hole will help diagnose rings. A significant jump in pressure after oil addition will point to rings. Search compression, and leak down, and you will find loads of info on this

OK, here are the leak down numbers:

#1 - 180psi -> 350psi
#2 - 300psi -> 540psi
#3 - 240psi -> 400psi
#4 - 330psi -> 600psi
#5 - 260psi -> 280psi

My interpretation for this would be:

#1 really bad rings?
#2 OK
#3 bad rings?
#4 OK
#5 bad valves?

What do you think?

Also if you are serious about diagnosing make sure you do each cylinder a few times to catch air leaks.
