300TD locked steering column
Hi guys, I just posted this question in the tech help section before I realised it noted it was for gas engine mercedes----I'm brand new to this! The steering wheel is in lock mode with the wheels straight ahead and the key won't turn. The wheel doesn't usually lock with the front wheels pointing straight forward, don't know if it is supposed to .
Any ideas how to free it ? Its at my work location and I don't want to have to tow it home. Any help greatly appreciated. |

Just try pushing it hard in one direction than the other and turn the key. It is unusual that it locked in the straight ahead position. I've had mine lock up when turned hard in one direction before.

This is not new?
Obviously I live and learn. Just found another thread with Davidd and he seems to have the same problem . Steering lock or lock tumbler , I'm go-en back to that
st James Infirmary.....with graphite and WD-40 and hope to get it home before I attack it with a die grinder..... Gasp. |

On the other current thread that you mention, I just posted a link to my thread when I had this problem a while ago. It may also help to have the front wheels jacked up and off the ground while trying to coax the steering wheel.
