Trap Oxidizer?

I have a air intake filter that looks different from all of the other cars like mine, it is a lot smaller and taller. I looked on the internet to buy a replacement one,and found out that these air intakes were put on in 11 states only, and that it has some kind of trap oxidizer, what is that? What does it do? And should I just buy a replacement filter, or would it not hurt to put one of these performance air intakes on my 300D Turbo?

Thanks!

Those "kits" are an extreme waste of money. They do not give ANY performance increase, they take in hot engine bay air, and don't filter worth a chit.

The filter on your car is well built, breathes cool air from outside the engine bay, filters out dirt well and only costs $45 once a year. It's worth keeping it.

Okay

That is what I thought also, because I heard of that idea before about the engine not getting cold air with the performance intake, so I will stick to buying a normal intake, but what about the (turbo heat shield) does that help cool the turbo, or not?

It can actually hurt it. The iron can't dissipate any heat which can make it brittle and crack.

It's only benefit is that it lowers the engine bay temperature.
