Thumbs up time for a "train horn" upgrade, finally!!! YAH!

^^^^Thanks, guys! I think this is gonna be next on the upgrade, list before a new set of rims or a better stereo, or anything.

I think a horn like this would be the perfectway to get the attention of those cell phone chatting bozo drivers who aren't paying attention, to anything on the road (like me).

It should clear the deer off the road, also.

So I'm driving home at 1:30 today. I've been working extra hrs and needed a haircut at 2PM (appointment), so was told "eh, go home early, you're traveling most of next week, and today's slow." Who am I to argue? Pick up the kids from school with wife, nice surprise, buy her flowers, good day. Sunny and warm. Nice sunroof day.

2 lane highway.
Two trucks, one in each lane, one really slow one in front of me in the right lane. I left blinker to move over with plenty of room and there's a little red Dodge Neon, who clearly purposely speeds up to 'close that gap" so I can't pass the truck. Ahh,,,but not enough that I can't still get in in front of him in a nice easy "I signaled, blinked 3 full times, and now I'm easing over" kind of move. No abrupt moves. Tank of a Mercedes wagon in front of a Dodge Neon.

So I'm now in front of him. The #2 truck in front of me (now in the left lane) is not quite passing the slower truck, so I ease back for proper safety distance (5 car lengths, we're traveling at 60 in a 55 zone, with no way to pass the truck(s) in front of us, so why not?).

With my mirrors, I don't need to turn my head at all to see that he's ticked. His hand is flopped over the steering wheel in impatience.
I'm in my "old man" driving mode, appearing oblivious, giving no sign that I saw him.
Finally, the truck in the left lane moves ahead enough that I can pass the slower truck and get back to the right lane in time to make my exit, to also allow Mr. Neon to pass me, so he can quick get in behind the truck again.

As I arrive in the right lane, Mr. Neon creeps up on my left and sits there hanging back just a little, maybe getting a 'good look' at the guy who he couldn't cut off. I know he's there, but I don't acknowledge with even a glance. I'm still in Old man mode. 'concentrating'.

He then passes me, and as he does, he shakes his head, looking at me in his rear view. He can see my face. I've got 600 ft. before I signal to exit. I'm still feigning 'old man'.
Then...as he continues to shake his head....
Big ****eating grin passes across my face and he sees it. He's boiling. He's aware now that I was aware the whole time. He gives me the finger through the sunroof. He doesn't see the truck in front of him slowing down. I signal for my exit. He continues to give me the finger. I give an "Oh No!" face as he repeatedly flips me the bird. Think Eddie Murphy as Mr. Robinson (Mr. Rogers) skit from SNL. Then another big smile, not quite as big, but clear.

As I exit, I see him slamming on his brakes to not hit the truck that had slowed down to probably 55 for the cop up ahead.

Yes, it was petty and childlike and I could have stayed in my lane behind the slow truck, but with a diesel, I plan my acceleration and was already in process safely with plenty of room in the next lane for the passing of the slow truck.
I never floor the pedal. It usually just wastes fuel. I accelerate and decelerate gracefully and in a normal manner unless in an emergency.
He made a deliberate effort to mess that up because he was pacing the truck in the left lane before he saw my blinker and floored it to not let me in.

Beautiful sunny day.

Those bug SUVs practically drive themselves -- start 'em, get them pointed in the right direction, and give 'em some gas. Everything smaller gets out of your way so you have plenty of time and spare mental cycles to have leisurely chats on the phone with others

When I had my rusty '84 Honda Accord, it seems like guys in full-size extended-cab pickups were the most agressive - flying 80 - 90 mph to cut me off or beat me to the next exit. This dosen't seem to be much of a propblen now with my much more powerfull Nissan Altima.
Now with my '82 240D, I usually try keeping to the right. Though the first time I took it out on I-95, I got stuck in the fast lane going 65, (in a 55 zone!) with some moron in a Hummer riding my tail and frantically flashing his brights. Traffic in the other lanes was going 70 to 75 so I couldn't get over and I couldn't seem to go much over 65.
Since changing filters, my 240D goes faster, but without an overdrive gear, I don't take it on the freeway so much. If I do, I still try to stay to the right, and keep out of the way of those motoring morons!

Happy Motoring, Mark

Smoked em

A couple of guys riding some Japanese motor cycles made the mistake of tail gating me at a red light the other night. When I took off, I could see them choking on my black smoke. Don't think they'll tail gate another turbo diesel anytime soon.

Talking Canyon Carving

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of a nice long mountain drive in the Angeles National Forest . as I was heading uphill I saw a brandy new fullsize Lincoln sedan approaching just as I over took a slow old Dodge van in one of the few passing zones (narrow , super twisty two lane road) and hammered down , wound my Diesel Coupe up to about 70 and kept it there as I happily zoomed through the empty roads , as I left the mountains some time later , the Lincoln finally caught up to and passed me , I gave him plenty of room but he had that P.O.'d look so many do when they're unable to keep up with any old beater , the Diesel badge on the trunk just adds salt to the wound

Haven't noticed any difference yet, but it's still early. Being in the Washington, DC area, it shouldn't take long to get a reading . . .

Iceholes come in all shapes, sexes and religions my friends.

I msut say that my favorite manuoever is in my Chevelle. Last time a cell phone squaking ( enter sex here) cut me off, I made ( enter sex here) wet their pants by lighting them up and smoking it out in front of them at 7400 rpm.

I do think I got their attention off that damn phone. Hope thaery had a cleaning bill.

Oh, and then theres the sidearm I pulled on the ( enter sex here ) driver of an Escalade in PA who was completley unaware of anyone/thing around them. Driving like a pure " I'm the only one in the world yuppie". Uh, they noticed the dude with the handgun alongside them FINALLY. Effing terrorists!

Yeah, go ahead and call my plate # in. See where it gets ya.

I did that to a mid 90's Caddy boat a few years ago. They really, don't do curves.

The "road" with all of it's traffic and all of it's traffic controls will regulate the speed.........not the driver.

Now, I'll grant you that the logic reverses iteself on a 400 mile trip. Change from +5 to +10 on average and you knock 30 minutes off the trip. Now, the speed of the vehicle will definitely matter due to the extended length of the journey.
This thread brings to mind a morning commute several years ago on my way to work. I was at a red light with a line of cars behind me and a little red sports car (they frequently seem to be red) pulls on the right shoulder and slowly passes the line right through the red light and disappears. This is a heavily traveled rural commuter road with only two legal passing areas, but frequently not available because of equally heavy reverse traffic. When the light turns green off we go never seeing the little red sports car which sped away. Until, that is, we get to the next light which happens to be probably 15 miles down the road. And there he is! Lol. Two or three cars ahead of me at a red light. But that's not all. On the home commute what do I see as I make my way in the procession of cars: little red sports car on the side of the road pulled over by police. Lol. My 'slow' round trip beat his 'fast' round trip that day.
