Water pump impeller sheared or normal operation ?

I decided to flush my coolant & change the thermostat. Yesterday in low to mid 80 degree temps and sitting in traffic, the temp was slightly above the 100 mark for a little while. I'm flushing it right now (thermostat replaced) and the coolant bottle is cold. The upper hose is hot, the lower only warm and the hose into the bottom of the bottle is cold, as is the water on the bottle. There is nothing flowing from the by-pass/overflow hose to the top of the bottle. Is this normal or am I looking at a sheared water pump impeller ? TIA.

100 seems too hot for 80 degrees ambiant temp.

otoh a sheared impellor would result in much higher temps i think, unless it was providing some cooling.

is your fan clutch and auxiliary fans working?

your description of the temps of the variuos hoses sounds correct.

Thanks for the info. Called a friend in the meantime and he told me the same. I'm used to late model cars that circulate thru the bottle constantly. I flushed it and replaced the thermostat. It's now running at about 82-85 at idle where it would close in on the 100 mark at idle after a short drive.
Next up is cleaning the fuel sending unit. It does a little funky dance below 1/2 tank.
