PLease Help!! Which oil?

Hi all. I need a motor oil change for my '91 300D 2.5Turbo and i was thinking maybe i can use another oil because the engine is not good anymore... the oil pressure stays in the middle when the engine is warm:(. Currently i use Castrol Viscus.
Which oil would be good? Would be ok if i use some oil additives?
Thanks!!

You need to use a diesel rated oil. Have you checked the oil sender and guage for proper operation?

Never heard of Castrol Viscus. Where are you located?

Adding location and type of car in your signature will keep you from having to tell this every time you have a question.

when you say the engine is not good cause the oil stays in the middle when warm... what are you talking about? oil pressure at idle? or when traveling at speed? or are you talking about the oil level on the dipstick?

It is an emergency situation, i dont know if sell the car or rebuilt the engine...

oil in the middle of the gauge at idle is normal.
no reason to rebuild the motor.

Manuel, mi amigo.... from what you described, the oil pressure gage is suppose to stay at the middle when idling...when you press the gas pedal, its suppose to go up...

Castrol CRB Viscous is a old 25W-50 CC rated oil, till few years back it was sold here in India, quite popular with the taxi crowd due to its lowered consumption, the oil gets thick quite quickly once inside the engine.

For you I would suggest Delo 400 or Delvac MX, both of which are freely available in SA.

Good, thanks but sometimes when the weather is hot like 40 celsius degrees the pressure goes down to 1, is that also normal? when idling of course..

Manuel your engine is OK. Be sure to use diesel-specific oil. Change it hot, and change it often. No need for rebuild.

rrgrassi 05-24-2007 12:07 PM

Yes, it's normal. Also if using a gasoline engine rated oil, it loads up with soot rapidly and cannot handle the shear pressures exerted by a diesel.

Maybe you can tell us what oil grades are available to you in Paraguay so we can try to give you better suggestions.

Actually this new Castrol Viscus is 25w 60 and i think is very heavy... id like to do an oil change with another oil maybe 20w 40? because we just started winter here...
I could get Valvoline, Esso, Ursa, Castrol, 76.
Whichone do you guys recomend?

I think this oil would be ok: Ursa Premium TDX SAE 15W-40
