The transmission will not come out of overdrive at times. The first time I was passing a car, and noticed it would not shift back to overdrive. If I start off from the stop position it will change fine about 50% of the time. I have checked the switch under the fuel pedal and even unplugged it, but that did not help. Will the transmission kickdown solenoid cause this problem. Help needed bad!!!

I just bought the car Monday. I have not checked any of the above yet. I am hoping that after getting suggestions I can check tonight. The car is pretty nice fo an 84. I had a mechanic check the car over before I bought it, But I guess something like this is easy to overlook. Thanks for your support and I will look into all suggestions. Thanks Jack

what speed are you trying to get it to Downshift at?
this car will not downshift above 65MPH if you are in top gear, you should be able to hit 80 very quickly from 70MPH. if you need to downshift, you need to be below 62MPH and above 55 and floor it.
