ALDA shims

Does anyone know the part numbers of the spacer shims for under the ALDA? How many thicknesses are there?

I think a better question is why do you feel the need to shim? The shims are very rare and pricey when you can find them.

Remove an ALDA, take it's shim to a hardware or automotive store and get some that match it.

still believe removing/shimming the alda is missing the point.. smoke is unburned fuel out the pipe..

That's why you shim or adjust it to the point just before it smokes. The ALDA wears out with time and likely does not give you full rack travel at boost after 1-200,000 miles.

I'm thinking you're missing the point of ALDA adjustment.

(And not all smoke is unburned fuel.)

isnt the alda system to regulate atmospheric pressure adjusments for the engine?
and your right.. not all smoke is unburned fuel, but the lead foot smokescreen is.

The ALDA enriches the fuel mix when it senses turbo boost. The NA models have a similar unit (ADA) that senses atmospheric pressure.

And you're right about the black cloud. I hate to see that. It wastes fuel, stinks, and generally gives diesels a bad name.

That is why I am making an attempt to increase the fuel delivery the correct way. This car still has an unmolested ALDA cap over the screw, so I don't want to screw with it that way.

I might have to fabricate some, or see what kind of washers they have at Lowe's... That's all they are, really. The only thing special about them is the gagued thickness.

appreciate the clarity 83cd.. we all have our own ideas for our beloved diesels, and dont get me wrong, my alda is turned up. but all this alda removal stuff hasnt seemed to be the right way to achieve better power output. have my alda tweaked just under the heavy smoke, and just dont get the advantage of altogether removal and the james bond effect. forced, bg, and winmutt.. your opinions are highly regarded, hence the reply in the first place.

shim for ALDA

I use a copper crush washer that I rubbed against a stone to reduce it. The same washer that comes in oil filters for the center rod. If anything this is still a bit thick but it really makes the 617 come alive, smokes a little more than before but not bad, a small price to pay for the performance.
