Its now 10:00 p.m. Mountain time and all but three pieces are stripped. Wow this takes a long time!!!! I accidentaly broke the piece that goes along the glove box but the locking mechanism should hide it...

OOH, sorry man, yeah that part is really fragile! I had to reglue it back to the metal support bracket, but I did not break it! The lock mechanism will pop out of the sleeve it's in but boy is that tricky! Easy to break as well!

That lock mechanism is a real PIA. It took me about 10 minutes to figure out how to pop it out. I removed the metal trim from all the wood pieces. I plan on reattaching them with some wood glue. I was really upset about breaking that one piece but I do think the lock mechanism will cover it just fine. In any event it will still look much better than before!

Will do. Wife has the camera and she's out of town until tomorrow. I'm listening to some old school Eric Clapton and polishing off a bottle of wine while soaking my Mercedes trim in some stripper. What a way to spend the night!

I'm having a glass of wine myself (Pinot Noir) while trying to draw a schematic of the RPM sensor that makes the tack function in my 300D! I found the circuit setup through a IC semiconductor website and took mine apart and am drawing up the schematic now.

I'm on the last glass of some Croft '98 Port. I don't think I could draw anything. At least I can still type... Clapton is about to hit a good solo now!

FWIW, Dumond Chemicals makes a bunch of different high quality strippers. I have not done my wood yet, but we use and have used Peelaway on a bunch of sensitive architectural applications and their stuff works very well -- better than anything you are going to find @ Ace or Home Depot.

Yeah, but when you live in Hooterville, 40 miles east of Phoenix, Ace Hardware is a really good and close option less than 1/2 mile away!

40 miles east of Phoenix? That's pretty much downtown Phoenix, isn't it?

It's a lot longer when it's 105* in the shade! We still use the old Candlestick Phone out here in the back 40, but the wires are inside the old house at least! I love it out here. It's amazing how fast you can go from urban to horses and pasture and cowboy country.

Wood is stripped and the first coat of stain has been applied. I think I'm only going to do one coat of stain. It looks good now. I will probably have to wait until this weekend to do the polyurethane. It will require multiple coats and you have to apply each coat within 2 hours or otherwise you'll have to wait 72 hours. That means I have to be around all day. Oh well, at least it will be worth it when its finally complete.

I only put on one coat of stain myself because I was afraid the wood would look to dark otherwise. You got the best part down, PATIENCE! Some have claimed to get good results with walnut stain. I can't wait to see how yours came out. I was VERY pleased with the effects of using some of my Red Mahogany on this wood project.

The wood in my car was much darker to begin with. Maybe it has something to do with that New Mexico sun. It was definitely darker than the wood in my '85. It looks nice with the stain though. I still can't wait for the final product.
