po records

PO records go from beginning to 186K. Car has 190K now.

There are records missing from 125k to 155k but, appears her MB book ran out at 125k. Different service records after 155k.

No quick lube places only dealer and independent MB service.

The car doesnt start up real fast. Kinda sluggish.

I will do compression test this week. Maybe that will tell me a few things.

How would I find out what is the source. Rings? Valve guides? etc.

You might try a diesel-rated SAE40 weight oil in the Summer

if it were mine, I would load it up with rotella 5W40 and let it run 2K and change it , keeping an eye on if of course. the cleaner partially synthetic oil will help your vehicle clean out what is sticking your rings etc. how long has it been since last oil change? how long since driven regularly? stagnation can cause some mighty fine damage if put away wet.

Are you seeing a lot of grey/black smoke from the tailpipe? Especially, after the engine is at operating temp? With that kind of usage, I would definitely believe you see quite a bit if it is burning it.

Here is a scenario I ran across......drained the oil, including the oil cooler, and noticed a sudden drop because of a highway run. Topped off and everything was fine. I believe the circulation into the cooler caused the sudden drop.

oil

I am not seeing any smoke at all. Maybe a little at start up. The car has gone about 7500 miles before last oil change. The car maybe sat without use for 6-8 months. Could I soak something like Marvel Mystery Oil in the injector holes for a couple of days to release rings? Lucas Oil Stabilizer any good?

oil

Come to think of it I have not done valve adjustment? I have no idea when PO had done it either. Would this contribute to oil loss/burning?
I need those darn wrenches.

I don't think adjusting your valves will do anything for the rate at which your car is using oil, but it sure can help with the starting issues.

Use a good diesel rated oil and put in the LUCAS "Keep that engine alive" oil stabiliser in there. It will help free up the rings and improve shear strength.
