IP solenoid, function/MALfunction?
Folks,
I was shopping for parts and ran into this... Description: AC DELCO, INJECTION PUMP ADVANCE SOLENOID -- OEM Design Fuel Injection Pump Cold Advance Solenoid And Engine Coolant Temperature Switch, A High Quality Direct Replacement Part Providing Exact Fit For So what are the symptoms when this solenoid malfucntions? I only had two connectors to the IP whe I repalced the harness, a four pin which mounts on teh rear outboard, and a two pin which mounts to the rear of the IP near the red "circle". I have cold start ( starts and runs fine, even when cold, but deterorates into a nailing/smoking condition within 10 secs.) smoking and some issues when under acceleration ( also some "nailing" and smoking). Anti-resonance flaps are now inoperative ( where causing surging at a steady rpm), and the EGR is diasbled. Enigne now runs smooth as slilk at steady rpm. Smokes/rattles upon acceleration though. Methinks we have a bad prechamber in the mix, and am running a heavy cut of MMO in the fuel to help possibly clear this out. Also found a beautiful hill, Shintzus Rd, where I can load the buggy hard going up a 45 degree incline for an 1/4 mile Italian tuneup. It will smoke the first time up, and doesnt smoke the 2nd or 3rd???? Almost as if the engine "coughs" iteself out. [B]Anyway, simple Q today is re that IP solenoid. It must be the two lead conenction at the rear of the IP, yes? And when it malfunctions, what aare the symptoms??? TIA |

AC Delco is good for filters but not much else.

Gee , master of the obviuous are ya? Of course. This part was listed in the 1995 E300 D catalog. FYI Delphi makes parts for MBz as well. Global auto industry, eh?

injection pump solenoid
I too saw that part and it is used on plenty of M/B's both gas and diesel...I think my old 91 300CE has this malfunctioning part as when the engine is cold it runs fine but when it warms up it misses. Sound like fuel system is delivering too much fuel. I replaced the water temp sensor which feeds the injection system but no difference. If I unplug the sensor wire then car runs great.
Maybe I should throw on another new part like this solenoid which looks like it gets feedback from the temp switch i just replaced. Any ideas? |
