unfortunately, mine does not jump... it climbs up to just above 80, then smoothly moves up to 95 ish, then climbs up to 100. I rigged the aux fan on all the time, no change. I have never changed the thermostat, and I have a pair of new bhers, so I suppose I will change that this weekend, and see how it goes.
the radiator in there is a used pull from my 83 TD, and it may be scaled up. I have always wanted to do a citric flush... off to ebay.

yea me.

If it doesn't jump, it could mean clogged radiator and cooling passages, and also a water pump going south.

ground should be good. other "accessories" are working.

i did notice there seems to be a ground that runs off of the temp. sender that i need to double check and if so clean.

i am not comfortable running consistently at 100. if another issue on the engine cooling system sh*&s the bed i dont have many degrees to be able to react.

i am going to the indys later and have him check rad for temp. differences

great, waterpump going south is not a good thing... I also noticed today that my coolant level has dropped a bit.
but it was above the full line still. (I slightly overfilled the system when I put in the radiator)

Do a pressure test on radiator to weed out any leaks, also make sure that radiator cap is new, I change mine every two years.

What I am concerned about is the loss of your coolant in a short span, over time its normal, the pressure test will also reveal of any leaks in your cooling cavity or head gasket etc.

Glad to be of service.

Ok, if your coolant level stays same its good news, you don't have any kinds of leak, flusing the radiator and engine would be the viable way, then we go to the water pump. Check your ground to the temp meter.

The wire that comes off the temp sender is the positive side. The ground issue is on the instrument- you should add a ground wire to the back of the gauge.

This is IF you have a flickering needle- which you haven't confirmed, I don't think
